At Archimede Energia, we specialize in the production of lithium batteries and energy storage systems. Founded in 2007 to meet the growing demand for energy efficiency in the real estate sector, we have since expanded our reach across a wide range of industries. Thanks to continuous innovation and technological research, we have become a leading player in the development of advanced solutions for energy storage and electric mobility.
History and innovation: from Lake Maggiore to the global market
Founded by the Villa family—entrepreneurs from Milan—Archimede Energia quickly became part of the Innovation Hub on Lake Maggiore, standing out for our pioneering use of lithium batteries over traditional lead-acid and nickel-cadmium types. “We were the first Italian start-up to focus on energy storage using lithium cells,” recalls Cesare Miridin, our Sales Director. Over the years, we have taken part in major electrification projects in the automotive sector, collaborating with Piaggio, Centro Ricerche Fiat, GM, and Iveco.
Innovative solutions for energy storage
Energy storage is now at the core of our operations, accounting for 47% of total production. In 2024 alone, we produced 1,410 batteries, totaling 13,187 kWh—an increase of 12% over the previous year. Our energy storage systems power electric vehicles, light towers, and hybrid generators, and include CEI 0-21 certified solutions for stationary applications. Our focus on safety and quality has enabled us to collaborate with the world’s leading lithium cell manufacturers, ensuring reliability and continuity of supply.
Electric mobility: tailored solutions for last-mile transport
While we do not target the highly saturated automotive market, electric mobility remains a significant part of our business—about 11%. We provide battery solutions for light electric vehicles such as Estrima’s Birò, ideal for urban and last-mile mobility. We also developed 40 kWh energy tanks for Esselunga’s Electric Sprinters, allowing efficient deliveries in low-emission zones (ZTLs), equipped with range-extender systems certified by the Ministry of Transport.
Industrial applications and special traction
Our technology is also used in highly specialized sectors such as agriculture, marine, and industrial handling. We’ve developed batteries for Cormidi mini-dumpers, CMA self-propelled fruit harvesters, and autonomous livestock handling vehicles. Additionally, we were pioneers in applying hybrid solutions in the nautical sector, earning prestigious certifications from authorities such as Bureau Veritas and RINA.

Safety and innovation in lithium batteries
We place particular emphasis on the safety and reliability of our batteries, primarily using advanced chemistries such as NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) and LFP (lithium iron phosphate), known for their high energy density and optimal performance. Contrary to common belief, the risk of fire in well-designed lithium batteries is extremely low and typically linked only to improper use or external damage.
Future projects and the tech lab
Since being acquired by the HB4 Group in 2019, our Verbania site is being transformed into a Tech Lab dedicated to prototypes and small-scale production, with a strong focus on continuous innovation and technological research. The future of Archimede Energia includes further investment in technology and production capacity, with an ongoing commitment to high quality standards and environmental sustainability.
